The historic Riggin-Pesold House is a privately owned 19th-century landmark in the heart of Lebanon, known for its rich architectural history, preservation efforts, and the recently published literary memoir The House that Learned to Hold. Throughout the year, the home is especially recognized for its elaborate Halloween and Christmas displays, drawing visitors from across the region to experience the charm, history, and seasonal spirit of one of Lebanon's most beloved historic homes.

About the author

Michele King Hellstern is a historic homeowner, writer, and preservationist based in Lebanon, Illinois. Alongside her husband, she serves as a steward of the Riggin-Pesold House, a 19th-century home whose layered history inspired her first book. With a background as a paramedic, trauma nurse, and nursing professor, Michele brings a unique sensitivity to the ways places hold memory, presence, and human experience. Her work blends historical research with lyrical narrative, giving voice not only to the people who lived in the house but also to the house itself.

The Memoir can be purchased on Kindle or in paperback by clicking on the author's page below:
